Fun Friday Blog #9: Would you rather always get 12 hours of sleep a night or 3 for the rest of your life?

As much as I love to sleep I would probably take the three hours. Having to sleep 12 hours a night can be troublesome when you need to stay up to finish various homework or projects. Also sleeping over at a friends house would be extremely boring because you would be the first one asleep every time. Being sleep deprived every night is not fun and pretty much every Iolani student should know that. However, I think even if it is not healthy, there are some people who can run on extremely minimal hours of sleep. I hope I would be one of them and still be productive. I also heard there are certain benefits of being sleepy such as creativity when writing. On another positive note, the less you sleep, the more hours you can be living your life and doing things you want to do.

  1. This is really interesting because at first glance I thought oh yeah easily 12 hours, this isn’t even a question. But as I read through your reasoning, you’ve swayed my answer. I agree that although it isn’t the healthier option, it would be a pain to live my whole life on 12 hours because I would be struggling to find time to live the rest of my life. I would rather be tired and living life to its fullest than be wide awake and scrambling to find time for even basic life events

  2. Without a moments hesitation, I would choose the three hour option. For one, I despise sleep because I feel like its almost a curse to have to sleep for literally a third of your life. Imagine all the things you could be doing with that extra 9 hours everyday! I would finish so many anime series so much more quickly and I could put so much more time into other things as well. I guess the only thing you’d have to watch out for is procrastination. With so much more time on you hands, you might be tempted to put certain things to the side.
